Mack Restoration

The Skaneateles Fire Department's 1951 Mack, designated as Engine 1, is the Department's oldest apparatus in continuous use. It is listed as a functioning response piece, although its primary duties are restricted to parade functions.

If you care to make a TAX-DEDUCTIBLE donation to continue refurbishing work on the Mack
(e.g., pump replacement), please send your contribution c/o Dan Evans or Al Pola to:

The Mack restoration has been essentially finished for some time now. Minor repairs are still needed. The Chief's office was made aware of these items when the Mack was delivered from the body shop, and has taken responsibility for seeing that the work is completed. Said work includes:
- fixing speedometer and fuel gauges which are currently inoperable;
- adding 200' of white cloth attack line;
- cleaning up the wires on both rear spotlights;
- replacing the wiper blades;
- matching the missing piece of leather on the engine cowling, driver's side;
- replacing missing rubber gasket around the windshield;
- replacing broken pump.

The Mack Committee worked hand in hand with many volunteers who took their personal time to assist in any way, large or small, to make this happen. On behalf of the Mack Committee, we proudly present the 1951 Mack to the members of the SFD as well as our fire district community.
