MEMBER PHOTOS FOR FRAMED ANNIVERSARY POSTING

By approval of the membership, a framed plaque celebrating the Department's 175 years of service and containing the photos of all SFD members will be developed and hung in the lobby of the firehouse. Thank you to Bruce Silvers of Chickadee Photography for making this possible.

An announcement will be made at the August monthly meeting regarding the procedure for completing this project.  Bruce has searched his files and has been unable to find any of the former photos. So, you will have two choices:

Choice 1: if you have one of the former photos that were taken a few years ago, it may be used. Give it to Bruce so he can scan it and it will be returned to you. This will allow you to have that photo appear in the composite and you will not need to have your photo re-taken.

Choice 2: If you did not have a department photo taken of you in your Class A uniform, or are unhappy with the way it turned out, photos will be re-taken beginning with the September monthly meeting. Photos will begin at 5:30 pm. You must bring your Class A hat, coat, a white shirt and black tie.

If you cannot make that meeting, please contact Bruce Silvers for other arrangements. Opportunities will be given to all members through the month of October. After that, any member without a photo will simply have their name placed in the plaque.

BUILDING UPDATE - August 2008

Room rental/usage will follow prior rules. The reservation form will be found in the Communications Center, and must be filled out and approved prior to room usage. The dispatcher will keep a record of room reservations.

It is anticipated that computer hookup and programming will continue to occur through this month. This will allow complete Wi-fi access throughout the building, startup of form input through a designated computer in the truck bay, and notification of pager calls/info through your cell phone. Regarding this last item, if you are interested in having a text message sent to your cell phone for all Department pager calls and informational announcements, please send your cell phone number to either Car 1 or Dave Card.

The foundations for both the front sign at the Memorial as well as the bell have been laid. It is expected that all work for both items will be completed by the end of this month.

The Dispatch Center has moved to their final location! A scrolling message board has been installed by the window facing the apparatus bays that will let you know the type of call and address - this replaces the old chalkboard method at the former Station 1. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES IS ANYONE ALLOWED IN THE DISPATCH OFFICE unless you have prior approval from the on-duty dispatcher.

All sign-in sheets for calls are now located in the SCBA room.

FAMILY PICNIC NEWS

The Family Picnic will be at its usual location, the paviliions at Upper Austin, on September 20th. Festivities will begin at noon. In case of rain, the location will be changed to the apparatus bays at Station 1.
