January 1, 2012 - As the Skaneateles Fire Department was clearing a call at the intersection on West Lake Road and Benson Road, the Owasco Fire Department was being dispatched for a reported fully involved structure fire at 3801 Swartout Road.  Skaneateles Car 2 contacted Cayuga County Fire Control (CCFC) and advised Skaneateles Engine 11 was available to respond to the fire in Owasco.  Owasco Car 1 advised CCFC to start Skaneateles to the scene since the structure was fully involved.  While Engine 11 was enroute to the scene, the Owasco Fire Department was activated for another structure fire, adding Skaneateles Rescue 1 to box (the second reported structure fire was a second call on the initial structure fire).  Shortly thereafter, a LP gas tank's pressure release valve released igniting its contents,  requiring Skaneateles Engine 11's crew to place the "Blitz Fire" into operation to knock down some of the fire while the LP gas burned off.  Once empty, Engine 11 joined the tanker shuttle that was established.  Skaneateles Rescue 1 arrived on scene to supplement the manpower on scene.  Skaneateles units were on-scene for just over one hour.
